Facts about Kitsunes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Description:
Kitsune are Japanese fox-spirits. They are known for being shapeshifters, illusionists, and tricksters. These spirits can have between one and nine tails. These tails denote the power and status of a given kitsune; the more tails, the more power and prestige. Their totem, or head of their family, is called the Lady. She has either ten tails, or one thousand, probably depending on how she wishes to appear. She is the only kitsune with more than nine tails.
Kitsune are flighty creatures, with mercurial moods and goals. They tend to be very emotional. They fit the 'Trickster' archetype very well, falling in with Coyote, Raven, Loki, Pan, and such. No matter how impulsive they may seem, their behavior revolves around this fact. As the Japanese Trickster, they are there to teach others lessons.
Kitsune do not care for the concepts of 'good' and 'evil.' As spirits (or 'kami,' the Japanese word), they do not follow or understand human moral dictates such as these. On the other hand, they do have a strong concept of 'right' and 'wrong,' established by the kitsune's own viewpoint, of course. This fact means that kitsune tend to have strong ethical codes. If the tenets of the code are violated, a kitsune will often become malicious toward the offender, playing harmful pranks, causing disruptions, embarrassing the person, and so on. If a person follows a kitsune's code, however, a kitsune will often become very kind and helpful toward that person. But, although kitsune have their own ethics, they also often adapt somewhat to the codes of those around them, mostly for the sake of finding acceptance among others.
Kitsune tend to be family-oriented. They often live and work together in families, or sometimes just in teams. Kitsune, all being part of one spirit family, will try not to hurt each other, even if they find themselves opposed to other kitsune. In such cases, kitsune will try to drive one another away, rather than harm each other. Kitsune are also very emotional. They are extremely vengeful if they are crossed (and often enact long, drawn-out and painful vengeances on those who have done so), and they lose their temper easily. However, if someone earns a kitsune's trust and loyalty, then they have won a strong friend. Because their emotions are so strong, kitsune often thwart their own plans by giving in to their feelings, and they often find themselves distracted the same way. Kitsune can even be brought to harm through their emotions. If a kitsune can be made to regret something, then they can literally die from it.
Kitsune are very proud. They hate being confined or trapped into anything they don't wish, whether being held captive, or simply stuck in a situation. A kitsune in this position is weakened, and other kitsune frown on people doing this to a kitsune deliberately. Kitsune also hate to ask for help. Anyone who wants to help a kitsune must do so from their own initiative, because the kitsune will not ask. Kitsune are bound by their promises. If they break their word, then they become self-destructive. Breaking your own word to a kitsune is one of the best ways to make it your enemy.
Because they are Tricksters, kitsune feel compelled to play with people. If a kitsune sees a flaw in someone, they will aggravate it until it is obvious to anyone who meets that person. If the person in question is immoral by the kitsune's standards, then the kitsune will often drive them along that path until the person is destroyed by it. On the other hand, if the person tends to be moral, by the kitsune's definition, then the kitsune will become helpful, though they may still play tricks to help that person get over their flaws. The kitsune especially love to play small tricks on good people, to make sure they don't forget humility.
History and types of Kitsune
Kitsune are tied to Inari, the Shinto deity of foxes and rice. Inari is a wide-spread and popular god, and so are his temples and his messengers, the white-coated kitsune who have sworn loyalty to him. Inari's symbol is the red torii (the traditional religious gateway to a shrine) with two white foxes. This association with Inari came to be when a kitsune family sought shelter in one of Inari's temples. Inari granted them sanctuary and protection, in return for their oaths of service. Each member of the kitsune family swore ten oaths, and in exchange they were given positions there. Since then, this kitsune family's decendants have served the god faithfully. These kitsune are called 'myobu.'
These oaths allow kitsune to live in and gain power from Inari's temples themselves. In return, the kitsune protect those who work and live near the shrine, and anyone who comes to the shrine for help. This especially applies when these people are being harassed by other kitsune. In that case, the myobu will track down and deal with the nogitsune (kitsune who doesn't serve Inari). Myobu are restricted from getting involved in others' affairs without being asked. Doing so is considered the height of bad manners, as it insinuates that the person is incapable of dealing with their own problems. Myobu who see someone in such a situation must sometimes find ways to trick the person in question into coming to them for help. Myobu are not considered trickstersas the other kitsune are. They're considered helpful guardian spirits.
Kitsune Clans:
There are thirteen clans of Kitsune. Each is connected to one of the thirteen elements. There are two 'high' elements, that aren't tied to the material world, and the rest are considered 'low' or 'wild' kitsune.
Heaven Kitsune: also called Celestial Kitsune, or Prime, they are tied to one of the high elements. These are one of the two most numerous types of Kitsune, and most serve Inari.
Void Kitsune: also known as Dark Kitsune. They are the other high elemental kitsune. None of them serve Inari.
Wind Kitsune: also known as air kitsune, or kuko. Most are considered bad. Kitsune have been known to appear as wind, or to create mists and fog.
Spirit Kitsune: Kiko or koryo, another of the 'bad' kitsune. Also called 'ghost foxes' or demon foxes.
Fire, Earth, River, Ocean, Mountain, Forest, Thunder, Time, Sound: The rest of the low elemental kitsune.
The mechanics of the things:
Willpower rating: STs discretion
Gnosis rating: One dot for each tail possessed.
Power rating: 15 points for each tail possessed.
Tails:
Kitsune gain a tail by the intervention of the Lady or the god Inari. The standards of gaining a tail are judged by just how much the Kitsune fulfills its duty in the eyes of the Lady or Inari.
Charms:
The Kitsune gain Charms based on their number of tails. They can learn Charms and Gifts outside of their alloted number, but it is much more difficult unless taught by Nine Tails.
Note that these Charms are cumulative with the number of tails.

I would also like to add that these facts out of all other facts about kitsune that I have read and maybe you have read will be the ones that the kitsune of this forum will be based on. Keashiyani, don't you think the skills for the nine tail kitsune is very few (There's only one!)? Do you think we should add some more? Maybe we can make it so that the skills you have with each new tail will include the ones you had when you had fewer tails. It's just a thought! We don't have to go with it.

Okay. Well, your gonna have to change Keiko's (now Akio's) profile first... Well, I was thinking...Wouldn't it be better if there were 2 major types of kitsune? I decided that it would be better but you could always say no. If you say yes, the first type (the one you described) would be called the Elemental Kitsune and the second type (the one I'll describe) will be called the Normal Kitsune. Here's a some facts about the Normal Kitsune (I'll add to these facts when I get the chance...):
Description:
Normal Kitsune are often called 'foxes' among the Elemental Kitsune (also called Elementals), mainly nogitsune, because of their so called 'fox-like' knowledge meaning that the Normal Kitsune do not know or understand the things many Elementals do. An example of this is Inari, the diety many Elemental Kitsune worship.
Although the Elemental Kitsune do not like to associate themselves with Normal Kitsune, there is not much of a difference between them. They are both Tricksters but the Normal Kitsune are Seprecian Tricksters not Japanese Tricksters. Like the Elementals, the Normal Kitsune also call the head of their family the Lady. The Lady can have as many tails as she wants but the others have the one to nine tail limit just like the Elementals.
Unlike the Elementals, the Normal Kitsune will most likely ask another for help. This contributes to the many reasons the Elementals call them 'foxes'.
Normal Kitsune can only be found in Seprecia.
History and Types of Normal Kitsune:
Normal Kitsune are tied to Majine and not Inari. Though they are very different, they have some things in common: Majine is the diety of foxes and rice like Inari but only for the Seprecians. Majine and the Normal Kitsune associated when Majine witnessed a family of Elementals (once again, nogitsune) bullying a family of Normal Kitsune. Majine protected the Normal Kitsune from further attacks by the Elementals and in their gratefulness, the Normal Kitsune family swore loyalty to the diety. The kitsune that descended from this family also have a certain name, "shinsa" though they are not 'helpful gaurdian spirits' like myobu. The Normal Kitsune who are not loyal to Majine are called "tsume". Although tsume are not considered 'bad', they have sometimes been seen doing things the shinsa would never dare to do and so they are taken care of by them (shinsa).
Charms:
The Normal Kitsune gain charms according to the number of their tails which they get by also by the intervention of their Lady or Majine. Note that a Normal Kitsune can only have 4 charms per tail. These charms are:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I'll add to these facts sooner or later...The reason why there is no Kitsune Taboos is because they are the same except for 'A kitsune may never ask another for aid when it is in personal danger' because I stated before that the Normal Kitsune are most likely to ask for help from another. There is no Normal Kitsune Clans because once again, its the same as the Elemental Kitsune Clans.
